This August, experience the Red Clay Roots Music Festival, a unique celebration of music, Native American culture and storytelling. Held at the Visual and Performing Arts Center at Oklahoma City Community College, this festival brings together talented musicians, filmmakers, artists and cultural leaders for an inspiring weekend that honors the legacy of the World War I Choctaw Code Talkers. During World War I, a group of Choctaw soldiers used their native language to transmit messages. These men became America's first official code talkers, successfully confusing enemy forces. More than a music festival, Red Clay Roots offers live performances, thought-provoking films, visual art, cultural demonstrations and meaningful conversations that connect visitors with the state's rich Native American heritage.
