Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History
Travel back through four billion years of history at the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History. Designated as Oklahoma’s official state museum of natural history, this family-friendly destination is home to world-record-breaking giants, enormous fossil displays, and immersive environmental landscapes that reveal the extraordinary story of life on Earth.
In the Hall of Ancient Life, you’ll begin your journey from the beginning of life on Earth, then on into the age of dinosaurs and beyond. Stand beneath the colossal, Guinness World Record–holding Pentaceratops skull—the largest skull of any land animal ever found. Towering skeletons of enormous sea creatures, colossal insects, and long-vanished predators surround you at every turn.
In the heart of the Hall of Ancient Life, an enormous display captures the life-or-death struggle between two fossilized Jurassic giants. A recreation of the world’s largest Apatosaurus, pieced together from fossils uncovered in the Oklahoma Panhandle, rises beside a fearsome predator once known as Saurophaganax maximus. New research suggests the specimen represents a mix of large allosaurid dinosaurs, and the exhibit now highlights how our scientific understanding of the ancient world continues to change.
Beyond the prehistoric world, the museum invites you into lush indoor forests, sweeping landscapes, and a walk-through limestone cave that captures the wonder of Oklahoma’s natural environments. Visitors can also explore an extensive collection of Native American artifacts curated in partnership with Tribal Nations and come face-to-face with the 12,000-year-old Cooper Bison Skull, the oldest painted object in North America.
With rotating special exhibitions, hands-on family programs, an interactive Discovery Room for kids, and a museum gift store featuring scientific toys, memorabilia, and more, the Sam Noble Museum offers an unforgettable experience for locals and tourists alike.
