Embark on an eagle watching adventure at Quartz Mountain State Park in Lone Wolf this winter. Join the park naturalist for an informative eagle presentation at the Group Camp Community Building, located across from the Quartz Mountain grocery store, and caravan to eagle viewing locations around Lake Altus-Lugert. Guests are encouraged to bring binoculars and spotting scopes to see eagles coming and going from their roosting areas, usually an hour after sunrise and about an hour before sunset.

On warm afternoons, the eagles can often be seen riding the thermals above Twin Peaks, Quartz Mountain and Hicks Mountain. Eagles usually arrive at Quartz Mountain near the end of December and depart in early March, and they roost in the tall cottonwoods found along the north shore. On In Search of Eagles guided tours, children must be accompanied by an adult, and inclement weather will cancel the event. Large groups may call for additional dates, and additional self-guided opportunities are available. Layers of clothing are suggested, as it often feels colder near the water.

Notice: Reservations are highly suggested, as space in the tours is limited. Please call the park office to reserve. In addition, masks must be worn while in park buildings.
