Travel back to the 1800s and explore the plains through the eyes of author Washington Irving at the Fort Gibson Historic Site. The "Washington Irving" living history program will focus on the American author and the expeditions he joined during the 1830s, leaving from Fort Gibson. At the time, the fort was the westernmost U.S. military outpost. Irving's classic 1835 book, "A Tour on the Prairies," was based on the notes he took during the expedition of the land known as Indian Territory, which would later become Oklahoma.
