Located on 18 acres across from the Oklahoma State Capitol, the Oklahoma History Center brings the past to life. As the state's museum of history, this Smithsonian-affiliated museum highlights the many people and stories that make Oklahoma truly unique. There is a compelling story around every corner from oil and gas to aviation, the Dust Bowl to space exploration, tornadoes to the Land Run and the history of Indigenous Peoples to the iconic Route 66.

With five permanent galleries and a special exhibits hall, explore more than 200 hands-on interactives and 50 subjects that tell the stories of Oklahoma and its people. This 215,000 square-foot learning center also includes a Research Center and hosts special events that appeal to all ages. From the Farm-to-Table Festival to rockabilly concerts, there is always something to enjoy at the Oklahoma History Center.

The ONEOK Gallery presents a broad representation of past and current Native American experiences with artifacts, music, photographs, art and oral histories from the indigenous people of Oklahoma. Learn about Oklahoma's early history from settlement to statehood at the Sam Noble Gallery, then move on to the Kerr-McGee Gallery for African-American history in Oklahoma, featuring information, artifacts and recreated locations related to important figures in the community and civil rights history. The E.L. & Thelma Gaylord Special Exhibits Gallery highlights the achievements of Oklahomans who played pivotal roles in aviation and the United States air and space programs.

After visiting the galleries, be sure to visit the gift shop, stocked with items from local artists, educational games, souvenirs and much more. Those working on family genealogy will also want to stop by the extensive research library and archives on site.

Conveniently located in the Capitol Complex, the Oklahoma History Center is adjacent to the State Capitol and the Governor’s residence, both within easy driving or walking distance. The History Center is conveniently located off of I-35 and I-40, with easy passenger pick-up and drop-off and free motor coach parking. The entire museum can also be toured virtually through the website, so you can experience Oklahoma's rich history from the comfort of your own home.
