In 1992, a fire came through downtown Pawhuska and burned the KXVQ radio station and OK Barber buildings to the ground. Rather than rebuilding the businesses, Pawhuska created a pocket park where the radio station and barbershop once stood. Today, the walls of buildings adjoining the pocket park feature a Pawhuska-themed mural painted by local residents Virginia Short and Ann Livingston. The Pawhuska pocket park mural features multiple cattle, bison, an oil well, a boy scout, the Oklahoma state and national flags, a cowboy and the seal of the Osage Nation.
