Address:
59 N Robinson Ave
Oklahoma City, OK 73102

Located in downtown Oklahoma City, the Clara Luper Sit-In Plaza pays homage to a significant milestone in the civil rights movement. The bronze statue depicts the 1958 sit-in at Katz Drug Store led by Clara Luper along with 13 NAACP Youth Council members.

The life-size statues and lunch counter sit at the location of the original Katz Drug Store where the activists sat until they were served. This courageous action led to the desegregation of the store and inspired a wave of sit-ins across the United States during the civil rights movement.

The NAACP Youth Council members continued to stage sit-ins throughout the early 1960s, helping to end segregation in Oklahoma's public spaces. The statue also features an empty stool where visitors can sit for a personal connection to this historic moment.
