There's a certain magic that happens when your tires hit the stretch of Route 66 running through Elk City. Travelers have been chasing that feeling since the highway's glory days, when families packed into shiny Chevys, neon signs lit up the night, and motels promised "air-cooled rooms" for a dollar or two.

Since its earliest days, Elk City has always been a town where the Mother Road comes alive.  Step off the highway and you'll find more than a map marker - you'll find stories. At the National Route 66 Museum Complex, you can wander through time, exploring the Old Town Museum, the Farm & Ranch Museum, and the Blacksmith Museum.

In the heart of town you'll find the thriving Downtown District, home of the infamous Casa Grande Hotel. White its doors may be closed to the public, you can witness the incredible architecture on its exteriors. The hotel neighbors the historic Parker Dilling Co. Rig #114, paying homage to Elk City's Oil & Gas roots.

Elk City isn't just about looking back - it's about living the adventure. Families spend the day at Ackley Park, with its carousel, train rides, splash pad and newly-constructed Thunderbird Bay Aquatic Center and Route 66-themed miniature golf course. The lake is perfect for anglers, kayakers, and campers looking to experience nature under the wide Oklahoma sky.

In 2026, along with Route 66 turning 100, Elk City turns 125 and Elk City is proud of to be part of its story - a place where nostalgia meets new memories.  So, whether you're chasing history, seeking fun, or just rolling where the road takes you, Elk City is ready to welcome you.
