The Canadian County Historical Museum in El Reno is recognized as one of Oklahoma's outstanding museums. Located in historic Heritage Park, the museum complex sits on the 98th Meridian, an important marker from the state's territorial days. During the Land Run of 1889, it was the boundary between the eastern lands open for settlement and the western lands settled by the Cheyenne and Arapaho tribes.

The museum is a complex made up of a series of historical buildings that have been renovated and are open to visitors. Head to El Reno and explore the Possum Hollar School, El Reno Hotel, Mennoville Mennonite Church, Darlington Agency Jail and the Red Cross Canteen as well as many other historically significant buildings.

The historic Rock Island Depot has been fully restored and is the main museum on the complex. Take a while to browse through artifacts from the town's past before moving on to the next site. Don't miss out on the Red Cross Canteen that was built in 1918 as the first one in the state and still stands today. General Sheridan's Headquarters is a cabin that is now the oldest structure in the county.

The Old El Reno Hotel is a beautiful two-story structure that originally was located on Route 66. The hotel houses exhibits and artifacts from the Canadian county's history. You can see all of this in one convenient location.
