"Belle Starr: The Truth Behind the Wild West Legend" Book Signing
Aug 2, 2025
This summer, learn about the fascinating history of "the Bandit Queen" Belle Starr with author Michael Wallis at the Oklahoma History Center. Wallis will discuss his new book "Belle Starr: The Truth Behind the Wild West Legend." Wallis's research includes a review of correspondences, official records, as well as newspaper accounts. Copies of the book will be available for purchase through the museum store.
Born in 1848, Starr was linked with outlaws throughout her life and is considered one of the most infamous female outlaws from the nineteenth century. Historians say her only documented crime was horse theft in 1883. She was shot and killed by an unknown assailant in 1889.
