You'll find the Middle Boggy Battle Marker located on the grounds of the Atoka County Museum and Confederate Cemetery, just off US-69 in Atoka. The Battle of Middle Boggy took place on Choctaw Indian Territory in 1864.
The encampment occupied by Confederate soldiers was attacked by Federal forces armed with howitzers. The Confederate soldiers, though poorly armed, are said to have made a firm stance during the battle which lasted around half an hour and killed 47 of their soldiers and wounded others. When the Federal troops heard more Confederate forces were riding in from Boggy Depot 12 miles away, they made a hasty retreat.
