For over 40 years, this Austin-based band has been thrilling audiences with their neo-traditional country and Western swing stylings. From their first gig opening for Alice Cooper and Hot Tuna in 1970 to recognition in "Rolling Stone" magazine by Van Morrrison and even helping launch Austin City Limits, this hard-touring big band has remained true to its original mission: carrying the torch of Western swing, or what band leader Ray Benson refers to as "jazz with a cowboy hat." Along the way, Asleep at the Wheel has earned ten Grammy Awards, released more than 25 studio albums and performed with a veritable who's who of music, including the likes of Bob Dylan, Lyle Lovett, George Strait and Ryan Adams.
