Historical Land Marker Unveiling at the Mr. & Mrs. Charles & Bertha Blevins Historical Home
Sep 19, 2026
This September, an exciting event will be held at the Mr. & Mrs. Charles & Bertha Blevins Historical Home in Tulsa. A historical land marker will be unveiled, sponsored by the Oklahoma Historical Society of Oklahoma City and the Civil Rights Trail grant program. The State of Oklahoma Preservation Office will present a certification on behalf of the National Parks Service of the United States. An honorary street signage marker will also be unveiled. A local voters registration drive will be held under the care of the League of Women Voters of Tulsa. Light refreshments will be served at this historic event in Tulsa.
In 2024, the Mr. & Mrs. Charles & Bertha Blevins Historical Home was listed on the National Registry of Historic Places due to the Blevins' efforts to promote Black voter registration and participation in Oklahoma's elections prior to the passage of the 1964 Federal Civil Rights Act. The Blevins opened their home as a polling place for nearby residents, which made voting more accessible and secure for Black voters in the community. The Blevins also hosted social gatherings and events at the home, which helped boost community development and pride.
