"Freedman History" Living History Program
Don't miss the "Freedman History" living history program at the Fort Gibson Historic Site this November. The program will cover a brief historical moment in the late 1800s when formerly enslaved people from across the territory traveled to Fort Gibson to be enrolled in the Dawes rolls. As they waited, a small community was formed on the post's grounds. During this time, several photographs were taken and these have been curated into an exhibit at the museum. Head to Fort Gibson this fall to view the exhibit and learn more about the Freedman history in the late 1800s.
