Visit Muskogee
Once the capital of Indian Territory, Muskogee has played a significant role in Oklahoma history since its founding as a railway station in 1872. Railroad workers, bridge builders, boarding house owners, homesteaders and many others soon flocked to the area to create the unique community that exists today. Those who remained to build the town of Muskogee despite hardships like the Dust Bowl and Great Depression are affectionately called "Okies."
Today the Okie spirit of determination and creativity can be found throughout Muskogee in the diverse set of businesses and unique attractions found throughout town. Whether you're visiting to see the Five Civilized Tribes Museum, the World War II submarine at the U.S.S. Batfish and War Memorial park, or the one-of-a-kind Castle of Muskogee, you'll find true Okie spirit at every turn.
