Head to Fort Towson this fall for the annual Doaksville Candlelight Tour featuring a half-mile walk full of fascinating history. The tour will make stops at the headstones of notable, local people buried in the 180-year old Doaksville Cemetery.

Scholars and re-enactors stationed at the gravesites, dressed in historical clothing, bring the names on the headstones to life through storytelling. To commemorate the 160th anniversary of Stand Watie's surrender following the Civil War, this year the cast of characters will include General Stand Watie, Union officers, Watie's escort Captain Kirby and a company of the Union 6th Missouri Calvary.
