The annual Prague Kolache Festival celebrates this Oklahoma town's Czech heritage with polka music, dancing, food, Czech costumes, a parade and much more. This exciting celebration full of free entertainment attracts around 15,000 people the first Saturday in May.

Kolaches are baked months in advance to prepare for the festival. It is estimated that some 50,000 kolaches are consumed by residents and visitors alike during the festivities. A kolache is a sweet bread filled with items like cherries, poppy seeds and apricots. A contest to determine the best homemade kolaches, bread and wine is held in conjunction with the festival.

Activities kick off at 9am with a costume contest followed by Prague Czech Folk Dancers and the opening ceremony. Entertainment continues throughout the day with live music at the grandstand. At 11am, one of Oklahoma's largest parades starts at 7th Street on Hwy 99 and makes its way through downtown Prague ending at the grandstand at the city park on Highway 62. Residents dressed in colorful Czech costumes can be seen along the parade route with glimmering sequins, beads and rhinestones. Floats, bands, horses, clowns and more make up the two-hour parade.

Free entertainment ranging from singers, dancers, and polka bands are guaranteed to please the curiosity of all. The Prague Fire Department will host a Firemen's Combat Challenge for everyone to enjoy watching. A polka band will play at the City Park gazebo, where guests will also find an arts and craft show featuring jewelry, face painting, wood art, ceramics, yard art and clothing. Guests can also have a blast at the wine booths, carnival, car show and beer garden on the premises.

Visitors to the Prague Kolache Festival can try their favorite flavor of kolache and other ethnic foods such as Indian tacos, roasted corn on the cob and funnel cakes will also be available at 25 food booths. The Czech Beseda Dance will be performed at 5pm followed by the royalty crowning at 6pm. Don't miss the Polka street dance from 7-10pm followed by an exciting fireworks display. Come spend the day in Prague with the whole family and enjoy a laidback atmosphere with the excitement of a fair.
