It is no surprise that golf courses in Oklahoma are so varied as they showcase the distinct terrain in which they’re located. Whether they’re nestled in the rolling, tree-covered hills of eastern Oklahoma or the open plains of western Oklahoma, here are six courses you shouldn’t miss.

Good golf course design involves using existing topography and vegetation to make a course unique and highlight the beauty of its natural surroundings. Considering the Sooner State's diverse landscape, it is no surprise that golf courses in Oklahoma are so varied.

Cedar Creek Golf Course at Beavers Bend, Broken Bow

One of the most scenic state parks in Oklahoma, Beavers Bend State Park, also offers one of its top golf courses. Cedar Creek Golf Course, located just north of Broken Bow, at Beavers Bend State Park is top-flight in every way. With fairways framed by tall pines, this long, narrow course features Bermuda-grass greens, tees and fairways and numerous water hazards. The course lies on the shores of Broken Bow Lake and crystal-clear Cedar Creek adds beauty as it runs through the course. The Cedar Creek course also features a driving range and pro shop offering club and cart rentals and a snack bar. Golf Digest named this 18-hole, par-72 course Oklahoma’s top municipal golf course in 2009. Nearby Beavers Bend State Park offers camping, cabins, lodge accommodations and a variety of outdoor recreation opportunities. (NOTE: The Cedar Creek Golf Course is closed through November 2020).

Lake Murray State Park Golf Course, Ardmore

The Lake Murray State Park Golf Course in Ardmore, Oklahoma is a challenging one, so you’ll need to be on top of your game when you hit the links here. However, this 18-hole course is also very scenic. It’s known for its par-three 16th hole, which is surrounded by water on three sides and features a dramatic 12-foot waterfall. A pro shop and practice range are located on-site, along with an air strip for those who want to fly in for an afternoon of golf. Greens fees are very reasonable. Lake Murray State Park offers a lodge, cabins, camping and a variety of outdoor recreation opportunities.

Sequoyah State Park Golf Course, Hulbert

Located in northeast Oklahoma’s Ozark Hills, Sequoyah State Park Golf Course is a Floyd Farley-designed 9-hole course that proves challenging for most golfers. It’s also affordable, with $32 green fees that include a cart. Situated amid densely wooded hills, the course features Bermuda-grass greens, tees and fairways, along with numerous sand and water hazards. A full-service pro shop with cart and club rental is located on site. Popular lodging options include The Lodge at Sequoyah State Park, also located in Sequoyah State Park, as well as the park's cabins and campgrounds.

Roman Nose State Park Golf Course, Watonga

Nestled among canyons and low rolling hills of buffalo grass and wild blue sage, the Roman Nose State Park Golf Course proudly showcases the western Oklahoma landscape. Located near Watonga in the Central Great Plains eco-region, this 18-hole, par-70 course lacks water hazards, but offers sloping fairways and elevated greens. With $32 green fees (including cart), it’s also known as a great value. Facilities include a putting green and pro shop. Extend your visit with lodging in the state park.

Fort Cobb State Park Golf Course, Fort Cobb

Golfers of all skill levels will appreciate the Fort Cobb State Park Golf Course. This long and challenging course features a wide-open front nine and a more demanding back nine, replete with sand bunkers and lake views. Located in southwestern Oklahoma near Fort Cobb, this 18-hole, par-70 course features a putting green, driving range and pro shop with cart and club rentals. Green fees are $32 with cart. Golf Digest included Fort Cobb State Park Golf Course in their Places to Play publication as a three-star course for three years in a row.

Chickasaw Pointe Golf Club, Kingston

Golf Magazine named the Chickasaw Pointe Golf Club at Lake Texoma as one of "America’s Top 20 Golf Courses" in the under $50 green-fee category. This par-72 championship course is situated amid rolling hills with views of Lake Texoma and features four tee sets for golfers of all skill levels. And with 49 strategically placed bunkers, the course is also challenging. Chickasaw Pointe features a full-service pro shop, an on-site restaurant, and it offers golf lessons and clinics. Green fees, including cart, are $35, Monday through Thursday, and $45 on Friday, Saturday and holidays.
