Located in central Oklahoma, Grady County was formed at statehood in 1907 and was named after Henry W. Grady, an editor of the Atlanta Constitution. The Chisholm Trail ran through the county, and in the late 1800s and early 1900s, railroads were constructed in the area. Oil and gas exploration has been a major industry in the area since the 1920s. The Grady County Historical Society Museum in Chickasha houses artifacts and exhibits of the area’s history.
