Sayre
Historic Route 66 runs through the heart of Sayre, Oklahoma, which was founded in 1901. East Main Street holds an iconic reminder of Sayre's significance on the road – the Beckham County Courthouse, which briefly appeared in the classic film, "The Grapes of Wrath." This 1911 beauty comprises a symmetrical blend of neo-classical and second Renaissance revival styles, echoing a time when buildings reflected grace and grandeur. Sayre City Park features two Works Progress Administration gems: a red-stone pool house built in pueblo style in 1940, and just west of the pool, a sturdy wall crafted from the same stone. Located just southwest of town, the Sandy Sanders Wildlife Management Area showcases 25,000 acres of pristine prairie in western Oklahoma.
